We now live for more than 15 years on the island and within this time we have moved several times. At the beginning due to lack of knowledge and trusting false promises we lost a lot of money and gained great disappointments. 

In later years while searching for a home to purchase we attended numerous useless showings. Either because the property corresponded in no way with the listings of the real estate agent or it showed serious exclusion criteria.(e.g. such as no parking, high-voltage transmitter very close to the property, a large dog breeding kennel as a potential neighbor, and so on). 

If we finally found a property that met our criteria and we started the purchasing process, it came up that the property has no "Cedula Habitabilidad" (an official habitability certificate), which means that the building on the property is not legal. We will later in our blog explain what consequences due to the lack of this document may occur.
